What do you think?

In Ezekiel 48:30-35 the prophet tells of the city named "The Lord Is There". He reveals that each of the 12 city gates are named after one of the 12 sons of Jacob. He calls the gates 'exits'. I thought they should be called entrances. No description in the Bible is accidental. Meaning is attached to each one. Why do you think he did that?

  1. To show the that the Lord wants to leave his established place (his city), and expand in all directions (12 gates)? 'Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end...' Not sure though - just a thought.

  2. They are exits because we are to be a Church that is "sent out" - ekklesia! Not one that safely remains inside the four walls. We come in (salvation), to be sent out (discipleship).

What a thought! What a God we serve!

  3. I love that you asked a question and prodded for thought. Too many pastors, preachers, and friends reduce complex ideas of G-d down to a 3 step formula. Thank you for not telling me why. Thank you for making me think.

  4. I'll buy what everyone else said...but then, maybe it's that we have a free will and we can leave His presence anytime we want. Nah! Who'd want to do that? I vote for this: Since it was Ezekial who saw the levels of waters- which would flow OUT of God, He cannot be boxed into a man made structure. He flows out...
