Knowing Where You Stand

Jacob had a ladder, Peter had keys, Paul had a seat, the disciples had a prayer, and the church has a door. All of these describe the access we have to what God has provided for us in Christ. Paul spoke of our access this way: "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we now stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God" (Romans 5:1-2). Many in the church do not yet know where they are standing.

When Jacob awoke at Bethel he said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it" (Gen. 28:16). Many in the church are about to awaken to the same reality. God is in their place, the place where they are standing. He doesn't have to come, He is already there, waiting for each of us to access all He has for us by faith. As more and more folks do...well, some call that revival. Do you want one?

  1. And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. (John 1:51)

If He has already come, and if the heavens are already opened, then why does there appear to be a disconnect between the people of God and the power of God? Food for thought. Perhaps a personal consecration issue, or perhaps a doctrinal thing?

All I know is that we need Jesus now, in all of His power and might, to break in and intervene in our situation.

  2. Jesus has already broken in and intervened. Thats what He did through His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. The Holy Spirit has already been poured out. One of the difficult hurdles people have is to believe they have access to the Spirit and that they can move in this realm of power and blessing by faith.

One thought I have had about the idea of personal consecration is: Jacob received his revelation and encountered the Lord just after swindling His brother out of his father Isaac's blessing. He wasn't very holy when the Lord showed him the ladder, the door of heaven, and the House of God. So, it may be that the goodness of God and the power of His Spirit enables us to become consecrated rather than our consecration enables us both to change and to move in the supernatural.

God had a Laban down the road for Jacob. By that I mean that God never wants us to be unrighteous but will set up circumstances and situations to deal with our issues.
